Tigray’s budding industries were the target of deliberate destruction by invading Ethiopian and Eritrean forces. Almeda Textile Factory in Adwa, Central Tigray, was among the many manufacturing firms that were looted & completely destroyed by Ethiopian and Eritrean forces in 2020. The factory provided employment opportunity for up to 6,000 people with over 30,000 dependents.

Almost a year after Almeda Textile Factory was looted and completely destroyed by Eritrean forces, whatever left of the 4.5BN Birr factory was bombed by the Ethiopian Air Force on 24 Nov. 2021 with the intention of destroying evidence so Eritrea won’t be held responsible for the factory’s destruction. In a military show of force in Addis Ababa, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Ministry of Defense’s new building, Ethiopia proudly announced that its air force completely destroyed Mesfin Industrial Engineering in Mekelle and Almeda Textile Factory in Adwa.
